Breitling celebrates 140th anniversary with three new perpetual calendars
Breitling luxury replica watches began its illustrious journey as a watchmaker in 1884. However, it was its long-standing partnership with the aviation industry, which began in the mid-1930s, and the launch of its in-house movements in 2009 that made the brand a legend in the watch industry. These milestones are as important as ever in 2024, as Breitling celebrates its 140th anniversary with three new watches that further refine these milestones.
First up is the Caliber B19, which traces its origins to the Caliber 01, launched in 2009, Breitling’s first in-house movement. When it was introduced, it represented a giant leap in Breitling’s development, securing its independence from external suppliers and boosting the brand’s profile. Not only was this modern chronograph movement simple in design, suitable for mass production, it also met the highest demands for precision, powering some of Breitling’s finest watch models. Production of the Caliber B01 takes place at the purpose-built, state-of-the-art Breitling Chronométrie factory in La Chaux-de-Fonds. At the time, its efficient assembly process was more automated than was common in mechanical watches, even down to the oiling process and the laser fixing of the hairspring to the collet. But today, its level of automation would be considered standard, showing just how far ahead of its time Breitling was. The elaborate lab even tests the assembled movements in advance to prevent possible assembly or COSC issues.
Throughout Breitling’s history, the brand has produced numerous in-house chronograph movements—the Caliber B02 with a 24-hour function, the Caliber B03 with a split-seconds function, and the Caliber B04 with a GMT function—but the automatic B19 is the brand’s first exclusive chronograph with a perpetual calendar, and it features a moon-phase function as well. The perpetual calendar automatically corrects for leap years and months with fewer than 31 days until the next calendar year (2100). Caliber B19 also boasts an exceptional power reserve of 96 hours (four days). replica Patek Philippe
Breitling B19 Powers Three New Watches
Breitling has not only introduced a new automatic perpetual calendar movement, but has also incorporated it directly into three new red gold cased watches, each of which is limited edition and of historic significance.
Breitling Premier B19 Datora
The Breitling Premier B19 Datora 140th Anniversary is based on the 1943 Premier. The Breitling Premier is the brand’s elegant watch known as a gentleman’s chronograph. The new model features a 42 mm 18K red gold case and retains the Premier’s distinctive numerals, contrasting minute scale, and square pushers. Even the elaborate tachymeter scale (which can be used with the chronometer to determine average speed) is elegant—although it can’t compete with the gorgeous moon phase at 12 o’clock, which features a charming red-gold moon man. replica Ulysse Nardin
Breitling Navitimer B19 Chronograph 43 Perpetual Calendar
The Breitling Navitimer needs little introduction, and the new Navitimer B19 Chronograph 43 Perpetual Calendar 140th Anniversary continues the illustrious history of being the first pilot’s watch to feature a chronograph and the brand’s proprietary slide rule “flight computer.” In 1936, Breitling introduced the slide rule in the Chrono-Matic, providing pilots with a variety of convenient calculations. Its successor, the Navitimer, debuted in 1952 and offered expanded calculations—everything needed to plan a flight, including fuel consumption. Like a mechanical navigation computer, the watch allowed pilots to perform navigation calculations in the cockpit simply by moving a rotating ring under the watch glass. The new chronograph quickly became a masculine status symbol for pilots around the world. The Navitimer conveyed the essence of the Breitling brand like few other watches in the collection, and it remains the flagship of the Breitling collection to this day. The Navitimer B19 Chronograph 43 Perpetual Calendar 140th Anniversary features this extraordinary pre-digital instrument in a contrasting black hue surrounding the watch’s 18K red gold dial. The characteristic fluted bezel of this classic watch also looks stunning in the precious metal, elevating what is usually a true instrument watch to the level of elegance that befits a perpetual calendar moonphase. replica Richard Mille
Breitling Super Chronomat B19 44 Perpetual Calendar
The third and final watch in this trilogy of red gold anniversary watches is the Super Chronomat B19 44 Perpetual Calendar 140th Anniversary. Naturally, this edition pays homage to the Breitling mechanical chronograph launched in 1983 as the official watch of the Italian Tricolore Aerobatic Team and widely distributed in 1984. This watch is significant because of the era in which it was born: Breitling had been feeling the effects of the quartz crisis that the entire Swiss industry was experiencing since the 1970s. In December 1978, Willy Breitling announced that Breitling was laying off its employees and closing its doors. Of course, this closure would not last long: engineer and pilot Ernest Schneider acquired the rights to Breitling and registered his new company, Montres Breitling SA, in Grenchen a year later. As the times dictated, the “new” Breitling initially focused on making electronic watches, but with the boom in mechanical watches in the mid-1980s, the new-old company suddenly changed direction and focused again on traditional mechanical movements. The Chronomat marked the return of the mechanical chronograph and introduced the now legendary bezel with bezel indicators or “claws”. It quickly became a bestseller for the brand. This 44mm red gold anniversary edition naturally features a redesigned set of bezel indicators at the 15-minute mark on the shiny ceramic bezel, as well as a goose-shaped crown. A very attractive detail is the recast Rollerbuck bracelet in rubber. The skeletonized dial of this anniversary edition is very refined, but still highly legible, a first for Breitling.
All of these watches, like every Breitling watch since 1999, are certified as chronometers by the Swiss COSC. Without these certifications, Breitling wouldn’t be Breitling. Just as the brand’s founding year, 1884, is proudly printed below the brand name on the dial of a Breitling best replica watches.
