The unique Swiss watch manufacturer MCT returned to the scene after a few years of silence. The brand's famous Sequential One timepiece was developed by movement designer Denis Giguet, who later left the brand. When I talked to him for the last time, he told me that he would work full time at Van Cleef & Arpels everywhere. MCT was recently poached by a newcomer I believe, and has been working hard to get it back on track. The first step is to revitalize Sequential One through some design changes. These are two new MCT Sequential One S110 watches.
Each has the same wonderful original manual winding movement, with a rotating retrograde minute hand and hour markers on the triangular blinds. Back in 2009, we wrote about MCT for the first time here, and there is a video showing how this watch works-it's very cool. As the hour changes, the minute counter moves sequentially in a clockwise manner. Designer Fabrice Gonet re-examined the Sequential One in the new S110 series, using the core design of the 45 mm wide cushion-shaped case to create a more modern and hollow movement. The S110 case is coated in bare titanium or DLC black. We hope to have hands-on time for some new MCT watches soon to see if this concept is still interesting after its debut about four years ago.

Bronze is not just a trend, it’s a mega trend. Along with blue dials, it’s one of the most transversal developments in contemporary watches, at all levels of price. Bronze develops a patina over time that ends up making each watch different, reflecting the user’s lifestyle. In this case the bronze has been given a surface treatment to stabilize the oxidation, so that the typical bronze colour remains for longer. It coordinates with the hour numbers on the prisms. The strap continues the vintage, ocean-going theme, in patinated calfskin with visible stitching. Another feature of the piece is the narrow sapphire ring around the caseband. The case is 44-6 mm in diameter, 14.5 mm thick, with a white gold crown. Water resistance is the standard 3 bar (30 metres, no swimming or showering).

The rotating prisms architecture is fiendishly complex and can only be found on MCT watches, and a few other pieces. For example, the Richard Mille RM 69 Erotic Tourbillon uses three six-sided rollers to compose random three-part messges (“I want to / explore / your nipples”).
