Unveiling the new UR-230 “Polaris”: Urwerk’s first ceramic watch
In typical Urwerk fashion, this new creation doesn’t use ordinary ceramic, but a unique composite material specially designed for the brand.
In 2023, Urwerk unveiled the UR-230 “Eagle” as the first member of its 230 series, replacing the UR-220.
The model features the brand’s signature satellite hour display and is powered by a new movement: the UR-7.30 calibre. The black design features a DLC-treated titanium and CTP (Carbon Thin Layer) carbon case and is limited to 35 pieces.
Now, Urwerk replica watches for sale is back with the second generation of the 230 series, but the new UR-230 “Polaris” marks the first use of a ceramic case in its range.
However, this is no ordinary ceramic – it’s a special composite material specially developed by Urwerk in collaboration with Jura-based Busch Composites.
A brief introduction to ceramics in watchmaking
Over the years, ceramic has become an increasingly popular material in watchmaking for its strength and scratch resistance, and Rado was one of the first brands to use the material back in the 1960s.
In recent decades, countless other watch brands, from Chanel to Audemars Piguet to IWC, have begun to create watches with ceramic.
The downside of this material is its inherent brittleness, which makes it prone to cracks and breakage. Additionally, the material's rigidity makes it more suitable for angular designs rather than rounded ones, partly because the process of manufacturing ceramic watch cases requires the use of molds. replica Richard Mille McLaren
With its edgy and highly aerodynamic case shapes, Urwerk knew it would require a slightly different approach than typical ceramic. So Urwerk enlisted some experts in the field to develop a unique ceramic composite material specifically for the brand.
This exciting new material takes center stage in the UR-230 "Polaris." Let's take a look!
The New UR-230 “Polaris”
I recently conducted an exclusive interview with master watchmaker and Urwerk co-founder Felix Baumgartner, who explained: “Busch Composites is primarily involved in the space and aviation industries. However, they are also involved in the pharmaceutical and watch industries.”
“They made a special ceramic and quartz fiber blend for us, pressed it together and treated it with epoxy, which gives the material a crisp white color.”
While the new material is the biggest difference between the “Polaris” and the original “Eagle,” there are other changes worth noting. “The addition of quartz to ceramic eliminates several issues with traditional ceramic: color restrictions, breakage, and the use of molds,” Baumgartner continued.luxury replica watches
“With molds, you are limited in the design of the case itself and lose about 2% of the case material, which reduces the accuracy of the case. In contrast, with this composite material, we were able to machine the case to maintain the curved proportions we wanted.”
Also, in terms of case design, the “Eagle” uses a hunter-style caseback that acts as a protective cover for the sapphire crystal. The Polaris features a more traditional case construction, a sleeker, slimmer design, and is 1.5mm thinner than the original Eagle.

Urwerk’s styles can be a little intimidating, as they look nothing like your average timepiece. However, at their core, they are designed to be highly intuitive and user-friendly.replica Ulysse Nardin Marine watches
“With the 200 Series, our goal is to put the user in the driver’s seat of the watch,” Baumgartner describes. “Just like a car can switch between manual and automatic transmission, these watches can switch between manual and automatic winding systems.”
“When you’re relaxed and stationary, you don’t need to protect the movement from harsh knocks—you can keep the watch in the automatic position,” he clarifies. “But if you’re going to play a round of golf, you’ll need to put the winding system in the manual position to fully protect it.”
In either position, you can use the brand’s signature satellite hour system, which consists of three satellites for the hours and retrograde minutes. This perfect combination results in a pleasant "click" sound from the minute hand when the hour changes, subtly alerting the wearer to the new hour through both sound and feel on the wrist.
