Every year at Watches & Wonders, we look forward to seeing the latest creations from Van Cleef & Arpels’ Poetic Complications and Extraordinary Objects collections as they blend storytelling, creative curiosity and technological innovation to create the most fascinating timepieces at the show – both inside and out.

This year, love is the theme of Van Cleef & Arpels’ enchanting creations: the Bal des Amoureux and the Naissance de l'Amour automatons.

Personal Dancer
The story of Van Cleef & Arpels is a romantic love story in itself. The Maison was born in 1895 from the marriage of Alfred Van Cleef and Estelle Arpels. In 2010, Van Cleef & Arpels launched the Pont des Amoureux, a retrograde high quality replica watches with a woman indicating the hours on the left and a man indicating the minutes on the right. Every day at noon or midnight, the couple would meet on top of the bridge and kiss.

These gem-encrusted watches have become a signature element of the Maison’s Poetry of Time collection, showcasing the fusion of mechanical craftsmanship and exquisite craftsmanship. This year, the Maison has further expanded its collection and created a new romantic date destination.

The new Lady Arpels Bal des Amoureux Automate watch recreates the movement of the bridge to the Guinguette, an open-air dance hall popular in and around the suburbs of Paris in the 19th century. The automatic movement brings the lovers close to each other for a kiss at 12 o’clock. This intimate scene can be activated on demand by simply pressing a button on the case.

The automatic movement of the Bal des Amoureux is also new to the VC&A collection. It's not just the mechanism that brings this watch to life. The visual effect of depth is achieved through five different planes. For example, festive lanterns hang over a floor of white gold cobblestones, reminiscent of the streets of Paris.

In addition, the entire scene is enveloped in tones of colored gray enamel work, recalling the light and shadows of a starry night.

Meanwhile, the caseback echoes the scene on the dial, with an enamel applique on the sapphire glass and an engraving depicting the couple dancing.

Moments of Love
The Bal des Amoureux may show your feelings, but the Naissance de l'Amour automaton continues VC&A's love story with table clocks.

Dubbed the “Extraordinary Objects” collection, this series of table clocks debuted in 2022 with the launch of the Rêveries de Berylline and expanded in 2023 and 2024, notably with the launch of the Eveil du Cyclamen and the Bouton d'Or.

At the heart of the 2025 edition is a winged Cupid in white, rose and yellow gold, set with diamonds, sitting on a carved rose gold column. men replica watches

Once activated, Cupid slowly rises from a cloud of white gold, diamonds and three shades of pink sapphires, flapping his openwork enamel wings. As Cupid ascends to heaven, he is accompanied by the melody of a carillon, and eventually returns to this hidden realm.

The automaton’s base is entirely carved from iron eyes, a colorful gemstone with a golden sheen. A graduated rotating ring surrounds the base, with two lacquered feathers marking the hours to indicate the time.

Atop the base sits a bowl of petrified palm wood – a new material for the atelier – and a basket of feathers. This intricate device was designed in collaboration with François Junod’s atelier in Sainte-Croix, Switzerland.

This precious masterpiece combines the savoir-faire and mechanical expertise of Van Cleef & Arpels’ Geneva watchmaking workshop. These two extraordinary creations embody Van Cleef & Arpels’ philosophy of “the poetry of time”, as if contemplating the passage of time in the rhythm of Cupid’s wings or admiring a starry ballet. Moreover, the gem-set watches celebrate the jewellery timekeeping tradition that Van Cleef & Arpels cherishes.
