Grand Seiko launches limited edition watch with GMT indication to celebrate 100th anniversary of 9S caliber
A versatile suit and sports watch in one bottle.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the first Grand Seiko caliber 9S. This movement is the pride of Iwate watchmakers and the basis of most Grand Seiko mechanical watches. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of this iconic movement, Grand Seiko launches two new models with GMT indication: the Sports SBGJ275 and the Elegance SBGM253.
As always, the highlight of the new watches is the dial. The dial design of both watches is inspired by the starry sky of Mount Iwate, whose magnificent night sky can be seen from the Grand Seiko watchmaking workshop. The SBGJ275 watch is a large and rugged sports watch that is the hallmark of Grand Seiko. The stainless steel case measures 44.2 x 14.8 mm and features a bidirectional rotating bezel with a 24-hour scale.

The bezel is set with a blue and white sapphire crystal. The sapphire crystal not only covers the dial, but also, for the first time, is used on the caseback of a Grand Seiko mechanical watch. The case is water-resistant to 200 meters.
The color and texture of the dial are inspired by the sea of clouds over Mount Iwate. The delicate sea of clouds is broken up by the deep blue and gold accents on the GMT hand and the Grand Seiko logo.
The transparent caseback, which acts like a display case, reveals the 9S86 movement, which has a balance frequency of 5 Hz and a power reserve of 55 hours. The movement's titanium rotor is anodized and painted blue to match the dial. The official accuracy of the movement is +5/-3 seconds per day.
The SBGM253 model is slightly less sophisticated and more classically elegant. The 39.5 x 13.7 mm stainless steel case has rounded sides and slightly beveled lugs.
The dial is equipped with a box-shaped sapphire crystal. The stainless steel bracelet adds a sporty touch to the watch. The case is water-resistant to 30 meters.
The light blue sunburst dial is inspired by the starry sky at the top of Mount Iwate. The watch is equipped with a 9S66 movement and uses a traditional 4Hz balance frequency. The power reserve is up to 72 hours, and the daily error is the same as the previous model.
The design of the movement is also clearly visible under the sapphire case back, except that the rotor here is no longer blue, but blue.
