SIHH 2016: Greubel Forsey - Signature 1
With the new Signature collection, its first model was unveiled at the 2016 Shanghai International Fashion Show, and the luxury watch brand Greubel Forsey continues to pursue its founder's goal of recording and preserving the traditional watchmaking technology of future generations.
The visions of Robert Grubel and Stephen Fossey clearly articulate the “Le Garde Temps - Naissance d'une Montre” project, which was developed in collaboration with Swiss watch legend Philippe Dufour and announced in 2015 (we I wrote this project here).
For each new Signature creation, a talented watchmaker will use Greubel Forsey's resources, skills and expertise to craft his or her timepiece and sign the creation together.
The first model in this series was the creation of Signature 1, Didier J.G. Cretin, a brilliant watchmaker and a long-time team member of Greubel Forsey
The result is a hand-wound watch with three hands, no tourbillon function (this is the first time in Greubel Forsey's history), but a specially designed Greubel Forsey 12.6 mm balance that vibrates 18,000 times per hour. The movement has a power reserve of 54 hours.

What makes this huge sound so complicated is because the strike mechanism requires a separate power source. Therefore, the movement has two buckets and a train: one for timing and one for sonar.
