At this year's Basel International Watch and Jewellery Show, the Tudor dynasty launched another new member of their growing Heritage Black Bay collection. The new Tudor Heritage Black Bay Steel is the main cosmetic update for this collection, featuring a stainless steel bezel set and a polarized date on other familiar dials. We have recently had the opportunity to experience the new Black Bay Steel first-hand, and if you are a little overwhelmed at the low level of actual novelty, it will be impressive.

The dial of the new Black Bay Steel is similar to its predecessor. The steel-covered snowflake hand generously filled with Super-LumiNova still hosts a simple Submariner-style dial. Tudor began producing its own caliber in 2015 (and should be noted, separate from the sister brand Rolex), initially in their North Flag sports watch and Pelagos diving watch. Since then, we have seen the steady introduction of manufacturing caliber in the entire Tudor lineup, which seems to mean the market position of the Tudor market. Xinduyu Black Bay Steel Co., Ltd. owns the same MT5612 as Tudor North Banner and Pelagos. So, although it's not a brand new movement, it's still a very cool movement with a 70-hour power reserve, a standard 28,800 bph running speed, and a price point silicone hairspring for complete internal movement. Rare. The MT5612 is also a new addition to the Black Bay series, as the previous models were non-date and only used a slightly different MT5602.
Protecting all these elements and probably water (which is theoretically a diver's watch) is the same 41mm, 200m waterproof, stainless steel case with alternating brushed and polished surfaces that Black Bay fans are very clear about. From the previous version, there are anti-reflective, dome sapphire crystals and Tudor rose engraving crowns. The difference here is that the baffle insert is made of steel instead of the aluminum on the previous Black Bay model. Steel blades look tough and should add some scratch resistance to aluminum while also providing a military-inspired look. Black Bay Steel has several straps to choose from. Tudor rivet oyster bracelets are excellent for use on several other but not all Black Bay models. In this case, the riveted bracelet perfectly exemplifies Black Bay Steel's tool table style. Tudor's newly launched Black Bay may eventually take a tool watch market with Pelagos more than its predecessors, and they seem to be more interested in style than practical color borders and more symmetrical dials.
