Collecting history: Urwerk 103
Richard Miller helped to subtly lead a new world of watches, and URWERK really created what I now call contemporary horology. From the quartz era to the late 1990s, watchmakers have been focusing on the past - changing the same watch over and over again. 103 is a true iconic work. It represents a new generation (my generation!) watchmakers and designers who have created a timepiece from their own perspective. Science fiction, casual style and rethinking of the entire speaking device are clear post-quartz. This is the moment I believe we can start to see the watch as a work of art.
Like most good art, it didn't immediately catch on. Richard Mille draws on the familiar features of watches, making it easier for people to enter the modern world. URWERK canceled all of this. I remember that 103 early works were sitting in a lonely window that seemed to be forever. Collectors are now coveted.
Personally, I must admit that until 103.03, I have not completely "get it", this is the first time to open a case to reveal more mechanisms. I bought the first piece of work into this country - my first "super exotic". If Richard Mille is Ferrari, now we are talking about Pagani Zonda. So when it comes to collection and historical relevance, I like to see who is doing the best. For me, URWERK and MB&F best represent contemporary horology. They all recognize that mechanical watches have got rid of its practical necessities, but can be used as sculptures. Although I like everything that URWERK does best, the 103 series represents an important part of my life and collection history, so it is still my favorite. No one, no collection of 21st century watches is complete.
Tomorrow, for the last time I collected history posts, I will look at the reasonable conclusions I have and my favorite watch, MB&F HM4.

Urwerk has just released their first ladies watch UR-106 Lotus. The new Lotus watch reflects the same creativity and complexity that Urwerk has known since its inception in 1997. Prior to this release, Urwerk recently discussed a series of articles about women who influenced them and created their avant-garde brands (see Urwewrk's) about "excellent women."
Lotus wholeheartedly embraces Urwerk aesthetics and uses the brand's iconic satellite time in a whole new way. Three satellite hours were built in a three-part turntable similar to a flower. Each satellite has a four-hour number that sweeps along the minute scale. In addition, there is a moon phase made of lapis lazuli, which adds to the complexity of the watch.
The UR-106 Lotus is available in two versions: a titanium bezel with diamonds on the bezel and clasp; black PVC coated titanium and steel versions with black diamonds. The size of the watch is 35 mm wide x 49.4 mm long x 14.45 mm high.
Although known as the "Women's Watch", I think this should be considered a unisex watch - although I also think that Urwerk wants to celebrate women in particular is great.
