Rolex unveils first sapphire caseback update for 2023 Daytona
This year, speculation has been intense as to what product Crown replica watches luxury will release next. After last year's not-so-great performance, it had to be a good one. Now, we kick things off with the transformation of the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona.
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Paul Newman's favorite timepiece, Rolex has chosen not to release certain commemorative limited editions, but to revisit the entire collection for the first time in (some might say) too long. So, let’s take a look at what this means for this legendary racing chronograph.
This isn’t a complete redesign of the Rolex Daytona, so purists still waiting for an older version need not panic just yet. It's more of a refinement and on the dial means a shift in balance. Although subtle, redesigned contrasting sub-dial rings and slimmer, longer hour markers give the overall look a more elegant look.
The same goes for the case, which is consistent with how Rolex replica mens watches updated the Air King last year, with polished lugs and case sides. In short, they keep the entire product in line with the rest of the Rolex collection – and it’s pretty cute. Like any change to the Rolex status quo, these changes will divide some opinion, but I think they're relatively safe here.
Speaking of keeping things consistent, the movement has finally been updated to the 4131, a chronograph evolution of the 4130 with a Chronergy escapement, Paraflex shock absorber, and a Parachrom hairspring for 72 hours of operation. All the modern bells and whistles. But that’s not all – there’s also a respectable level of finish. Yes, we know this because it can actually be seen through the sapphire case back.
Rolex launches exhibition caseback for the first time? crazy. But Rolex’s own Côtes de Genève and skeletonized rotor are full of madness. It's gorgeous, clean, and precise. Hopefully this is the start of more transparency from Rolex. Unfortunately, this is just a variation - we'll get to that soon, don't worry.
Titanium may be one of the key materials for Rolex high quality watches replica this year (admittedly, I'd like to see it here), but there's plenty of other metallurgical loveliness here too. The Cerachrom (ceramic by any other name) bezel is very wear-resistant and has edges that match the case. Beyond that, there's a healthy mix of precious metals, which brings us to the color scheme.
First up, we have a version that will have a convoluted waiting list around the world, and that's Oyster Steel. The white dial, black sub-dial ring and black ceramic bezel with silver numbers perfectly interpret the Rolex Daytona racing style. I want it. You want it. The world wants it.
Then we have a retro two-tone version that also sports a white dial but swaps black for gold across the board and filters it down to a gold steel bracelet and gold crown pusher combination.
Next up is the full Gold Edition. On the one hand, we have all rose gold with a black dial and Everose gold subdial (no ring here, just the usual full subdial) and an all gold bracelet. It features a lot of metal, as does the all-gold version.luxury replica Watches
Although this version instead sports a yellow gold dial with black subdials, and comes with a black ceramic bezel, making it more than just a straight metal swap. It also comes with an Oysterflex bracelet. Why this isn't a comprehensive option is something that would take the work of a mad genius to figure out, but it's nice to see one of the coolest and most comfortable strap options in watchmaking getting more love.
Finally, we got platinum. How do we know it's platinum? Blue dial. It is basically the symbol of the most precious precious metal. This is also the version of the new Cosmograph Daytona that comes with an exhibition caseback, which honestly adds to its value more than the metal ones. While the stock photo doesn't quite do it justice, the frame is also chestnut brown instead of black, but so far that's really just the icing on the 60th birthday cake.
