TAG Heuer's Formula 1 racing series added a pair of blue dials in 2016, providing a good excuse for us to reconsider the Formula 1 range. The F1 series began operations in 1986, and when TAG Heuer launched its new model based on Autavia in the 1970s in 2015, the most significant change occurred in the history of the model. The two new watches share a shiny starburst blue dial with orange highlights, which is news in itself. Some strange things happened in Formula One in early 2010: As the TAG Heuer watch was brought to market, all the colors seemed to disappear, leaving a soft monotone in one stage, the only dial option was Black, White or Anthracite color.
But this is not the content of the Formula One series. This is an interior color watch, so we are happy to see bright colored blue on the dial and bezel.
Although you can buy a Formula 1 car with an automatic movement, this is not the true meaning of this series. The beauty of Formula One is that it combines a sporty, colorful look with a durable quartz movement at a very reasonable price. Introducing the series is a chronograph model, reference number CAZ1014- similar to the Red Bull version we reviewed a few months ago. The watch has a matte blue dial and red and white contrast, but the two watches are very similar.

This chronograph has a 43 mm stainless steel case with brushed and polished finish. The main polished surface is the case side, crown and button.
The dial provides a manually applied steel index with an oversized "12" number in the north. The outer edge of the dial has a small inner ring with a scale of minutes and an orange interval of 5 minutes. Each of the three registers has a circular arc pattern with a steel frame that helps provide a dial definition.
While many of the watches in the TAG Heuer range now offer ceramic bezels, the fixed blue bezel on the new F1 is an aluminum alloy with a racing speedometer scale. Another noteworthy feature is the colorful TAG Heuer Shield, in sharp contrast to the more common all-white logo. Historically, quartz TAG Heuers use color markers, while automatic models use white markers. Like other Formula 1 quartz series, this watch is water resistant to 200 meters.
There are two ways to attach the F1 chronograph to your wrist - whether it's a brushed steel strap you see here, or a "technical nylon strap" similar to the NATO strap - no rubber or leather strap Option. This is a good fit for us - considering the price of the bracelet itself, we may order this model on the bracelet, but we can also purchase the technical strap separately so that it can be exchanged during the summer.
This chronograph has its own strap - a blue base strap, a central orange stripe and two small white stripes. The chronograph is made of a standard steel Formula 1 watch back with a checkered flag. Sitting behind the back cover is the Ronda 5040D quartz movement. 1/10 second and hour indicator on the same register? After 30 minutes, the register now shows the number of hours, one mark every half hour, and 1/10 of the time lost.
The second blue dial in the collection is three watches. There are some differences between the two models, not just the non-chronograph version of the CAZ1014.
The 43 mm is the new case size for the Formula 1 watch - traditionally, the chronograph has a 43 mm case and the standard watch has a maximum size of 41 mm... but this is no longer the case. As with all F1 models, you will notice that the model name on the dial is “TAG Heuer Formula 1”, not just “Formula 1”. The reason for this is to reach an agreement with Formula One itself, clearly indicating that the watch is not subject to Formula One sanctions, but a well-known TAG Heuer brand.
We like this watch, you can see the technical strap here - this design is better than the Orange and Blue standard with chronograph. The baseband is dark blue and the light blue center stripe is limited by the smaller white stripes - it looks great.
The secret of F1 lies in its relatively slim outer casing - one of the benefits of using a quartz movement. You can see here that although it has a large case of 43 mm, the watch does not look as big as a watch, just like the 43 mm Carrera. Considering that we have already installed a nylon strap, the watch certainly feels lighter. For many years, TAG Heuer's wristbands have stagnated, but with the Formula One technology belt and the nylon belts offered by Aquaracers, there are now many options. This is the perfect watch for the NATO style strap. We especially like the black/blue/white strap, and many people look down on quartz - but the battery-powered movement is definitely the right choice for this watch.
