New for 2023, the Breitling Premier Chronograph collection is refreshed with the 42mm B01 power model. This is a historically important collection for Breitling, as it represents the brand's transition from hardcore utility watches to more ornate timepieces in the 1940s. In 2021, the brand released the 40mm Breitling Premier Heritage Chrono – as the name suggests, a 40mm model that plays directly into the heritage of the model line. When the Premier Heritage was released a few years ago, I had the opportunity to use the metal watch for a long time. You may remember the Pistachio Green Dial iteration - one of the most underrated watches of the year. For quick sake, I'm drawn to that watch, its overall design, and its 40mm size. When I saw that there was a new Premier coming out that would continue to use the B01, I silently hoped that 40mm would become a reality. While we continue to see this 42mm watch, there is a lot to love here and the updates that have been made are all positives in my book.
The first is to include applied Arabic numerals extracted from Heritage. This adds a sense of history to the new model and sets the Premier apart from the rest of the Breitling Replica luxury watches catalogue. A small change, but one that my typography nuts really appreciate, is the new font that updates the dial text. The typewriter style and serif design of the "Chronograph Premier" is something we've seen traditionally, and it works just as well on the larger models.
While there's a lot to like about the five new colors—I'm going to go ahead and declare salmon a favorite. Breitling made a salmon dial for its three-calendar chronograph Datora (a subsidiary model in the Premier line), and that watch blew my mind. I'm still out of socks when it comes to the new salmon, but I still absolutely love it. I also think the inclusion of a bracelet option makes these pieces more versatile.
