Bremont U-2 observation review
The romance of flight, the mystery of secret flight, and the durability of extensive testing. Each of these concepts is a major part of the Bremont U-2 watch - a new limited edition made for pilots of the U-2 spy plane. This review is really a comment on two watches - the U-2 and the Bremont Martin Baker watch (I wrote it here before). The result is a steel case approximately 42 mm wide, using Bremont's Trip-Tick structure and coated with black DLC (diamond-like carbon). The case is waterproof to 100 meters. The U-2 is a spy plane that was first commissioned in 1957 - still in use today. I remember seeing a person at the Edwards Air Force Base in the California desert when I was young. Imagine a pop-up lever that pops the movement out of the case. This will reach a new level of meaningless complications.
Bremont used the very healthy SuperLumiNova on the dial. Watching at night is very good because of the rich application of luminescent agents. I found myself very confident to read the time in the dark. The dial also has an internal rotating bezel that operates through the crown on the right side of the case. Unlike many internal frames that seem to be free to rotate, the bezels here have small but recognizable notches for precise use. Similarly, Bremont has a fascinating British name on this feature - "Roto-clik." Again, this is a prototype watch - so I am not sure about the exact buckle that will be on the final piece. At least 150 of these watches are available to the public.
