2022 NEW Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon GMT Turns Green
Earthy tones for AP's wildest travel luxury replica watches.
Announced on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Royal Oak Concept Collection, this is the latest expression of one of Audemars Piguet's wildest watches, the Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon GMT. In 2002, the Royal Oak's 30th birthday, the Concept Collection was a special project designed to commemorate the Royal Oak's 30th birthday. Since then, the concept series has been the most avant-garde branch of the Royal Oak family. tree, offering a very limited production of the same bold and absolutely technologically advanced modern Royal Oak.
The Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon GMT debuted in 2018, but the general format dates back to the non-flying Concept GMT Tourbillon in 2011. Featuring a flying tourbillon surrounded by green ceramic and rose gold accents, this model features a 44mm case with a thickness of 16.1mm and a sapphire crystal front and back to highlight its extraordinary movement.Audemars Piguet ROYAL OAK CONCEPT FLYING TOURBILLON GMT Green
While this is essentially a new color for an existing model range (AP last offered this model a bright blue tint in 2020), it's also a great opportunity to revisit the model's capabilities, all thanks to the excellent AP caliber 2954 Movement.
The 2954 is even more special, the flying tourbillon is just the beginning. The 2954 had approximately 348 parts, was hand-wound, and offered a maximum power reserve of 237 hours. Or about 10 days. Timing at 3 Hz, the movement also supports a second time zone via a clever pair of stacked discs positioned at three o’clock on the dial.
The top disc is made of sapphire and has a transparent background, showing 1-12 hours, so it rotates every 12 hours. You can advance the indicated hour by pressing the green ceramic button located under the crown on the side of the case - to fast-track another time zone. Below the sapphire hour dial is a second disc (this time made of brass) that manages the day/night indication by rotating every 24 hours. Very clever and quite subtle.Breitling Endurance Pro Ironman 70.3 World Championship
Finally, the movement is also equipped with a function indicator, which shows the function currently controlled by the crown. "H" is the time setting, "R" is the winding power reserve, and "N" is neutral. All these complications are concentrated in a skeletonized movement, with green and rose gold accents hidden in black PVD-treated bridges for reference.
As a GMT watch nerd - even the ones I'll never be able to afford - I love that the Royal Oak Concept GMT even exists. It’s a truly wild design that does a great job of modernizing the Royal Oak while still connecting with the original Genta design and Audemars Piguet’s longstanding talent for complex watchmaking.
Granted it's big, more expensive than my first house, and likely only for serious AP collections, but back in 2002 the Concept line managed to do something new and special, I think -- Whether green or otherwise - the whole concept (wink) ages well.cheap watches for sale
