Rolex celebrates the 100th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans with an original version of its legendary chronograph. The 40mm case is crafted from 18K white gold and features a black Cerachrom bezel engraved with the red number “100” on the tachymeter scale, recalling the centenary of racing. This new Rolex Cosmograph Daytona 100th Anniversary 24 Hours of Le Mans ref. 126529LN is equipped with the exclusive caliber 4132, which is a 24-hour chronograph instead of the usual 12-hour chronograph for this model .
The movement features a Chronergy escapement, Paraflex shock absorbers, and bridges decorated with Rolex Côtes de Genève. The 18K yellow gold skeletonized oscillating weight is equipped with optimized ball bearings. Like all Rolex watches, this special edition Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona has the highest level of chronometer certification, ensuring excellent performance on the wrist. To make things more interesting, the watch comes with a display caseback that allows full view of the movement.
A key part of this model is a tachymeter scale molded into the bezel that can measure average speeds up to 400 miles or kilometers per hour. The black bezel blends high technology with a stylish aesthetic, reminiscent of the 1965 model with a black Plexiglas bezel. On this original version, the red ceramic numeral 100 pays homage to the centenary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The one-piece Cerachrom high-tech ceramic bezel is corrosion-resistant, virtually scratch-proof and its color is not affected by UV rays. This extremely durable bezel also offers an exceptionally clear tachymeter scale, thanks to a thin layer of platinum deposited on the numerals (except for the numeral 100, which is filled with red ceramic) and thanks to PVD. This model features a glossy black and rich white dial with snailed counters, gold appliquéd hour markers and hands with a Chromalight display, a highly legible luminescent material. The graphic design of the dial is inspired by the “Paul Newman” Rolex dials of the past. The large central seconds hand reads accurately to 1/8th of a second, while two counters on the dial display elapsed time in hours and minutes.
