Swiss haute horlogerie company Audemars Piguet has released a new version of the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar, made entirely of blue ceramic for the first time. Its Grande Tapisserie dial and subdials feature electric blue accents. For the first time ever, the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar case and bracelet are made entirely of blue ceramic. Resistant to abrasion and scratches, this lightweight material accentuates the watch's 9.50mm thickness.
For the first time, the new 41mm Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar features an all-blue ceramic case and strap. The blue Grande Tapisserie dial and subdials add to the watch's starry night aesthetic.
To meet the high quality standards of watchmakers, ceramics must be manufactured with precision and meticulously hand-decorated. Powdered zirconia (ZrO2) is modified during baking to produce blue pigmentation, mixed with special binders, and then converted into ceramics through a complex industrial process that requires many stages of high-precision machining.
After sintering at temperatures in excess of 1,400 degrees Celsius, the components obtain their final color. Obtaining a consistent hue presents additional challenges as the final color of the ceramic is determined by the immutable sintering temperature.

The dial, sub-dials and inner bezel of the Grande Tapisserie watch have a physical vapor deposition technique that complements the blue ceramic case and bracelet (PVD). For optimum nighttime visibility, the connecting 18-karat white gold hour-markers and faceted hands are covered with luminescent material.
With its three calendar sub-dials and moon-phase apertures evenly distributed across the dial, this watch exhibits a pleasing aesthetic balance and indication of hours, minutes, day of the week, date, day of the week, month, astronomical moon and leap year indicators. Excellent legibility.

This new model is powered by an automatic Calibre 5134 mechanism. This method counts the number of days in the month and displays the current date accurately, even in leap years. Assuming the watch is wound regularly, the date will remain in sync with the Gregorian calendar until the year 2100 without human intervention.
