As unique as a rainbow, the brand new Hastroid Rainbow is an exclusive creation
To perfect the rainbow of colors on the dial, HYT employs one of the strictest modern handcrafting techniques, Techno Art. A new challenge combining exceptional skill and a vision for the future of Haute Horlogerie.
Radiant watches in the Rainbow collection measure the passage of time in color. For a modern, high-tech interpretation of this sleek look, contemporary independent Swiss fine watchmaking house HYT has chosen to incorporate a rainbow of colors into the presentation of this model.
HYT made the outer edge of the dial and the core of a unique fluid module with retrograde hour display the focal point of the piece. Color is the focus and serves two purposes: first, it creates a stunning decorative effect; second, it adds a technical dimension by improving the legibility of the display.
HYT's mecafluid technology takes it to the next level with Techno Art
Each of the 15 Hastroid Rainbow timepieces will be unique in nature, as they are the result of painstaking work by craftsmen who have mastered the artistic skills that require extraordinary dexterity. In addition to the precision required for this work carried out by hand, there is also the technical expertise involved in cutting it entirely with lasers. The tinted grille is tinted using tinted Zapon paint.
Zapon is a high-quality one-component varnish primarily intended for the long-term protection of galvanized dials. Painting using the pressure process requires great skill.
As a result, the dials of the 15 watches in the Hastroid Rainbow limited edition collection are individually handcrafted by Yan Patriarca, lacquer expert at MD'Art SA. In the art expert’s words: “Depending on the desired final effect, the product or mother-of-pearl can be altered by giving it a satin or matte look, tinting it translucent using dyes, pigments or even metallic flakes.”
In the specific case of the Rainbow grille, a white primer was required to achieve the desired brightness. Only then can the pure dye be sprayed by hand in several very thin layers, each no more than 2 to 3 microns thick.
"Creating a color gradient effect requires a lot of precision and patience. The aim is to create some visual magic, making the color change imperceptible; so the eye cannot detect where one shade ends and the next begins" Yan Patriarca explains, the next step is to work on the entire grid The grille is coated with a clear layer of Zapon to protect the finished product and protect it for the long term. "
It should be noted that the liquid in the capillary is black and as it moves across the colored dial, it gives the impression that it is colored by the shade assigned to each time slot. The effect is thus in constant flux and serves as a modern poetic reminder of the ephemeral nature of the rainbow phenomenon, which is scientifically produced when the mechanics of water meet the sun as the source of light energy.
The minute track, whose graduated scale follows the progress of the fluid retrograde hour indicator, is also painted a special bright violet.
As with other versions of the Hastroid model, a great deal of work has been done on the dial to improve its legibility; it is therefore equipped with a large central hand of delicate design, allowing the minutes to be read at a glance. The hand is also violet to match perfectly. Two sub-dials inspired by flight instruments provide further key information: the small seconds on one side and the power reserve on the other. These hands are Lumicast-coated in black and red for improved legibility.
Thanks to their Lumicast coating, the embossed hour numerals are also luminous, allowing them to continue their rainbow magic in the dark. Watchmaking expertise is thus able to create phenomena that are impossible in nature.
HYT, the epitome of watchmaking art in the 21st century
Hastroid is an iconic model with all the technical and aesthetic DNA of the brand. The case is made of multi-layer carbon fiber with a matte black DLC-coated titanium profile, and the case measures 48mm in diameter, 52.3mm in length, and 17.20mm in thickness.
The extraordinary structure of the case is achieved by superimposing adjusted and assembled elements, a feat of extreme precision. The crown is also made of black-coated titanium. Assembled water-resistant to 30 meters, the mechanical movement is protected by a central titanium case.
Retrograde hour and grand minute: Mechanical movements reveal power in the dark
In order for the dial to fully reveal its complexity, the central piece of the Mecafluid system with its two central "bellows" reservoirs is intentionally placed in darkness and given a special black treatment, finished in satin and sandblasted finishes. emphasize.
A fluid in a borosilicate capillary is used to indicate the retrograde hours, while a purple Lumicast-coated central hand indicates the minutes.
The power required to ensure the precision of this exceptional timepiece is provided by the hand-wound mechanical Caliber 501-CM (with 41 jewels), beating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and offering a 72-hour power reserve.
