White Gold AP Royal Oak 16202 Jumbo Watch – Check Out That Grained Dial
The new blue grain texture is undoubtedly cool - but what about the Platinum RO we didn't get?
Just over a year ago, Audemars Piguet made a drastic change to its most iconic watch, the AP Royal Oak Jumbo — though it was probably long overdue. The proportions of the new watch remain the same (see Ben Clymer's reaction last year), but the movement inside has been completely overhauled. 16202 was launched in four metals: steel, yellow gold, rose gold and platinum. Notably absent from this debate (except for titanium) is platinum. That changed today.
AP presents a new addition to the 16202 series along with ref. 16202BC.OO.1240BC.02 (try to remember that one) - 39mm RO "Jumbo" slim case style as we've come to expect from the model series, with some differences on top and bottom respectively.high quality replica watches
Last year's watch was adorned with AP's signature petite check, and this white gold Jumbo keeps things a little more interesting with its choice of textures. Inspired by the Royal Oak model made in 1992 for the 20th anniversary of the Royal Oak collection (then used for platinum reference 14802), this blue textured dial is reminiscent of the Tuscan dial model, with a similar but far Not so bright texture.
Of course, this isn't a '92 model, so this vintage dial has been improved. AP redesigned the texture of the dial to make the grain finer (brighter) to create different effects depending on the lighting conditions. The blue tint is obtained using PVD and then covered with a translucent coat to make the color stand out even more. All of this is housed in a white gold case and integrated (and signature) white gold Royal Oak bracelet - that's the complete Genta package. Inside beats the brand new AP ref for 2022. 7121. As noted in last year’s introductory report, the movement took five years to manufacture and required patenting (for the quick-setting date mechanism) along the way. This watch doesn't have it, but it's new for 2022, and it's the 50th anniversary rotor. That's because the 50th anniversary is over and we move on. Instead, the rotor has a large AP logo (still very nice).

This is a Royal Oak Treasure! That fact alone creates excitement. There are two things I have to admit about this piece. When I first saw a picture of it, I thought it was steel and I was super excited. The dial jumping from the screen to me affects me more than the petite check plaid (I dunno, call it check check fatigue). Then I had to think hard - was there really no Platinum 16202 last year? But that's not the only question I'm asking because we basically put every dial iteration of the 15202 into the 16202 series, including the green dial platinum model, before we regrouped the BC (white gold) RO. If I were a gambler (which I am not), this would not be the BC I would expect to get. Salmon anyone? That's right, you might notice that the 16202 with a white gold salmon dial launched today doesn't. It is pretty much the only 15202 dial model not converted to a 16202 frame.
This always adds to the rarity of the salmon dial 15202 and begs the question why the AP chose to exclude it from the new model update. Could white gold be the new breeding ground for interesting, left-leaning dial options? It's hard to tell at this point. When Salmon 15202BC was released, there was quite a bit of confusion. Is there a quantity limit? Limited production? No doubt some collectors pay attention to such minutiae and daydream about what might have happened. Others will be too busy staring at the blue grained texture of this novelty white gold.
This new RO BC version is doubly fun for me. The first has to do with the case and bracelet material itself, and the second is that it sits alongside the aforementioned green-dial platinum model as one of only two non-Tapisserie 16202 models. This makes it special.
At this point, the Royal Oak Jumbo is all about aesthetics and style. Last year, we made a mechanical upgrade - an upgrade that doesn't affect the size of the case. We'll be ready soon - we're fine. This means that from a functional point of view, we have the perfect RO Jumbo. All the AP has to do now is keep making it look... cool.replica luxury watches
In my opinion, this one is pretty cool. I love the deep tone of the blue dial surface, and - from a distance - the texture gives off a sense of gazing at the sky at night in a remote area where most residents have never seen a city. You can see Mars from there. I don't care if this is the intended effect of this pattern. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I'm hesitant to say this without seeing the metal one - but if chosen from the current collection, my money would be on the blue-veined platinum Jumbo (if we'd gotten a salmon 16202). It's simple, with a sprinkle of something special. Finally, it's the Royal Oak.
