On the first day of 2017, I want to present one of the most spectacular watches I have ever seen - the Astronomia Tourbillon from Jacob & Co.

Before I start introducing the information about this star beast, I would like to ask you, if possible, to meet this watch. You will never regret it.

What makes this possible is a patented differential gear system.

The dial is made of magnesium – an unusual choice for a dial, but one that helps balance the weight of the gear train that everything is on. Lacquered Roman numerals at 12/3/6 and 9 o'clock. The hands are gunmetal blue, angular and polished.

The movement is 40mm in diameter, 17.15mm high, has 365 components, 42 jewels and has a 60-hour power reserve (beating at a lower frequency: 21600 vph or 3 Hz) – quite impressive.

The finishes are, as expected, impressive: hand-beveled and polished planks and bridges, all with flank painting, circular graining and polished gutters. The screws are polished, the barrel has a circular grain and the pinions used are conical. As the bearings use 4 mechanical ball bearing units.
