Ulysse Nardin Black Sea Chronograph
If you told me that rubber-covered timepieces can be made into luxury replica watches , I would never believe you. Then it started happening, and high-end brands started experimenting with vulcanized rubber coatings on watches. It starts with the bezel pieces, crown and pushers. And then brands like Ulysse Nardin said "Go to hell, let's rubberize the whole damn thing." That's where pieces like the original Black Sea come from. Since then, Ulysse Nardin has introduced a series of Maxi Marine watches with a rubber coating. There is a blue model, some with decorative details in various styles, such as the one with a gold border exclusive to the Boca Raton, Florida boutique. This is the first chronograph version with a rubber-covered design.
Called the Black Sea Chronograph, the watch is water resistant to 200 meters as a diver with a rotating dive bezel. While few people actually go underwater with a watch like this, the dial does represent its utilitarian theme, with bold hands and hour indicators.
One thing that surprisingly seems to work is the openworked hands. I've noticed recently that I personally don't like skeleton hands very much. Mainly because they usually serve no purpose other than to make reading the dial more difficult. Designers use them for two reasons. The first is to make the dial under the hands more visible. This makes sense, and is often a trade-off of legibility for more time viewing dialed information. The second reason is purely for design. This is what I hate. This is when designers think skeletonized hands look cool in CAD drawings and computer renderings. They probably don't care too much about reducing the practicality level of an actual watch by a few steps - not knowing that the materials used to make the dial and hands greatly affect how it looks in real life compared to computer images.Ulysse Nardin Marine Diver Black Sea
It's especially bad when there's nothing you need to see below the hands on the watch face. Stay away from those watches. In this case, Ulysse Nardin took a more practical approach. The hands are skeletonized to allow more time to view the chronograph. This is because the hands are really fat. So although they are skeletonized, the tip of the fat lumen coating is large enough to be easily seen.
The Black Sea Chronograph case is 45.8mm wide, but is smaller than it looks due to the thicker bezel. It can be seen that the dial has a sand-like texture, and there are also red and blue embellishments on the surface. Although the name of the watch is Black Sea Chronograph, Ulysse Nardin reminds you that this is definitely part of the Marine Diver collection on the dial, part of the distinctive looking small seconds dial. On the side of the case is a piece of steel that bears the serial number of the fashion replica watches - this is not a limited edition.
How does vulcanized rubber on steel feel? Well, of course the rubber sticks well to the case. It's bonded to it, so it's not like a steel shell wearing a rubber jacket. You'll feel like it should wear just fine, but the right shot might end up ripping off some of the rubber. I wonder how often this happens. Vulcanized rubber is fairly durable, especially in this case, it doesn't need to be bent at all. My understanding is that it should look good for at least a few decades. I don't know about vulcanized rubber watches from 30-40 years ago - so I don't really know how durable they are.
A black rubber strap is attached to the black case. In true Marine Diver style, the rubber strap has two black ceramic pieces close to the case. These are inscribed with the symbols of Athens. A sapphire display caseback window on the rear of the case helps break up the usual look of black rubber. Inside the watch is a caliber UN-35 automatic chronograph movement, which is the basis of the Swiss ETA. Even the crown and buttons are made of vulcanized rubber to complete the theme. Overall, this is a unique sports chronograph that I find more fun to do in person than it looks in the marketing pictures.
